We‘re more than halfway there - week 3 in Dublin is over. In all honesty, Lea and I have really made the most of this week.
For starters, we went to Phoenix Park on Wednesday 20th July. That‘s Europe‘s biggest enclosed park and it is truly magnificent. While it was once built as a hunting park, it is now a public park that is still inhabited by a big herd of red deer. Unlike the deer we have at home, they are very friendly and let you get incredibly close to them. It was fascinating.
On Saturday I made my way to Cork, Ireland‘s second biggest city which is located in the south, so basically the other side of the country to visit Maria and Isi who are also staying there with Erasmus+. Together with them, Lea and some German Erasmus+ students we first went out for breakfast and then visited the historical prison Cork City Gaol. We had an amazing time there.
Since Lea and I were so fascinated by the Gaol we decided to visit Kilmainham Gaol, a historical prison in Dublin, on Sunday. There we learnt about the Gaol‘s history, some stories about famous inmates and most importantly about the Easter Uprising and Ireland‘s fight for independence. It was very interesting.
Before our visit to the Gaol Lea and I used the time we had to also visit the Irish Whiskey Museum, where we learnt about the history of Whiskey and even got to try four different ones. While I did learn that I am not a huge fan of Whiskey, it was an interesting tour and a great opportunity to learn something new.
Our time here is slowly coming to an end but we‘re trying to make the most of what we have left. On that note, stay tuned for my last blog next week!
